Powerboating Champion and Former Car Racer

Hugh D. Fuller Jr.

Hugh Fuller has dedicated his career to chasing the adrenaline rush of racing both on land and on the water.

Over the last two decades, he has become a fixture on the American powerboat racing circuit.

Mr. Fuller has captured a series of impressive titles, winning the 2011 Super Boat National Championship and becoming the 2013 National and World Champion in the Unlimited Class. On a global scale, he is one of the sport’s most accomplished racers, with several world championship wins under his belt. He won the Super Cat World and National Championships for three consecutive years and took home the top prize in the Extreme National Championship and Extreme World Championship in 2001, only a year after he started powerboat racing full-time.

In recognition of his accomplishments, the American Powerboat Association inducted Hugh D Fuller Jr into its Hall of Champions in 2003. He still competes professionally, with his most recent win occurring at the 2019 Offshore Powerboat Association World Championship in the Unlimited Division. Throughout his powerboating career, Hugh D Fuller has worked alongside such renowned throttlemen as Jerry Gilbreath, Rich Wyatt, and John Tomlinson. These partnerships helped him learn the importance of teamwork in powerboat racing as he transitioned from his previous career in car racing.

Outside of his career in powerboat racing, Mr. Fuller is committed to giving back to his community and his state. He is a long-time supporter of the Harold Coomer Evangelistic Association, which works to meet the needs of the less fortunate in Decatur, Alabama, and beyond. For the past 14 years, the organization has provided food for the homeless five days a week, and Mr. Fuller has been a major donor supporting this ministry every month since its establishment. He has also supported several missionaries over the years. In addition, Mr. Fuller spends time caring for his mother, who suffers from dementia.
